HCMC – Investors’ rising demand pushed up the VN-Index of the Hochiminh Stock Exchange today, December 9.
Closing the day, the main index added 2.5 points, or 0.26%, against the session last Friday at 966.06. Market breadth was positive with 187 gainers and 150 decliners.
The HCMC bourse saw 273.26 million shares worth more than VND4.9 trillion changing hands, surging 59.53% in volume and 27.52% in value. Of the total, nearly 90 million shares worth some VND1.9 billion were transacted via block deals.
Of these, electrical equipment firm GEX saw 13.8 million shares valued at VND276.5 billion transacted, while 10.5 million shares of construction firm ROS worth VND274.25 billion changed hands. In addition, the respective matching volumes of lenders EIB and TPB were 9.14 million worth VND155.38 billion and 7.3 million valued at VND158.58 billion.
Bank stock trading was mixed. TCB dipped 1.5% at VND22,800 and MBB fell 1.8% at VND21,450, while BID inched up 0.9% at VND40,000, HDB added 0.7% at VND28,000 and VCB picked up 0.4% at VND85,200.
Other key stocks were dairy giant VNM, steelmaker HPG and brewery firm SAB, which rose 1.5%, 1.5% and 1.2% at VND118,100, VND24,200 and VND235,800, respectively. Gas distributor GAS even moved up 1.8% to its highest level of the day, at VND99,800.
A sell-off pushed down the price of consumer goods firm MSN by 3.2% to its lowest level of VND60,500 in over a year. There were 1.42 million MSN shares changing hands.
As for liquidity, ROS was the best performer on the southern bourse with 27.54 million shares traded. It ended the day at VND24,500 per share, down 2%.
The most notable stock today was wholesale trader TTB. After 10 consecutive falling sessions, TBB increased to its ceiling price of VND5,460 due to the rocketing demand. The session saw more than 14.7 million TBB shares traded.
On the Hanoi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index slid 0.14 point, or 0.13%, at 102.36 points. There were 19.23 million shares worth VND219.35 billion exchanged.
Among the 10 largest stocks by market capitalization, industrial firm VCS rose 2.1% to its highest level of the day, at VND79,500. The remainder hovered around their reference levels.
Bank stock NVB led the market by liquidity with 4.37 million shares traded.
