Josh Lucas talks about moving to Indonesia for his son’s school and a terrifying spider incident on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Just a day after hitting the red carpet for the Ford vs. Ferrari premiere in Hollywood, Josh Lucas opened up about recently moving to Indonesia on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The 48 year old actor revealed on Tuesday that he moved to Bali with his seven year old son Noah Rev and his ex-wife Jessica Ciencin Henriquez so Noah could attend a special environmentally conscious school.

The Sweet Home Alabama star also opened up about some of the dangerous pratfalls involved with living in the jungle, including a terrifying spider story.

Lucas presented Kimmel with a ‘Hindu god walking stick’ after casually mentioning that he’s living in Indonesia now, joking that his Ford vs. Ferrari co-star Matt Damon had mentioned that Kimmel, ‘might need one of these soon.’

After accepting Lucas’ gracious gift, Kimmel asked why he’s living in Indonesia, with the actor revealing that he moved around the world for his son’s schooling.

‘I live in Indonesia because we came across this school called Green School Bali, and Green School has this amazing tagline … to create the next generation of environmental leaders,’ Lucas began.

‘I have this very special 7-year-old child, and I think all of us are trying to figure out how to have an impact in the world, and for myself, the best thing I could do is give my son this extraordinary experience,’ Lucas added.

He added that it was interesting to view the current American political climate from abroad, stating, ‘Being on the other side of the world and looking back at this madness is amazing.’

Kimmel joked that his parents would never do something like that for him, and asked the actor if his son is enjoying this unique experience.

Special child: ’I have this very special 7-year-old child, and I think all of us are trying to figure out how to have an impact in the world, and for myself, the best thing I could do is give my son this extraordinary experience,’ Lucas added

New view: He added that it was interesting to view the current American political climate from abroad, stating, ‘Being on the other side of the world and looking back at this madness is amazing’

‘He loves it. It’s magical,’ Lucas said. ‘It’s deeply in the jungle. It’s like Swiss Family Robinson. They grow their own food, they make their own buildings out of bamboo.’

Though living in a wild jungle does have its disadvantages, telling a crazy story about a spider infestation at his first rented home in Indonesia.

After coming home one day to a ‘spider the size of my hand,’ Lucas added the spider had a ‘white sac’ attached to it, which a local friend slapped, causing chaos.

Magical: ’He loves it. It’s magical,’ Lucas said. ‘It’s deeply in the jungle. It’s like Swiss Family Robinson. They grow their own food, they make their own buildings out of bamboo’

‘When he slapped it, the white sac exploded, and there were thousands of baby spiders scattered throughout the house — they went every single direction,’ Lucas recalled. 

‘Next thing I know, I hear screaming from the other room, where my son and his mother were, and they’d wrapped themselves inside a mosquito net,’ he said, referring to his ex-wife and Noah’s mother Jessica Ciencin Henriquez.

He reiterated that the story he was telling was ‘completely true,’ adding that it was ‘like out of Planet Earth,’ adding that, ‘there were scorpions, spiders, ants — I mean, everything.

‘There was a feeding frenzy going on, and because of it, it brought the big spiders and the big scorpions out from the different crevices of this place,’ he said.

Lucas is living in Indonesia with his ex Henriquez, five years after they divorced in 2014 after two years of marriage.

Lucas stars in Paramount Network’s Yellowstone as John Dutton and Ford Vs. Ferrari, alongside Matt Damon and Christian Bale, in theaters November 15.
