Tracy McComic has made a name for herself as the creator of custom made artisan jewelry. Now, the local artist is sharing a different side of herself in her debut solo art show. “UnEarthed: A Gem of a Journey” is on display through Feb. 15 at Central Artstation, 801 Crockett St. in downtown Shreveport. The collection of more than 40 paintings will reveal sides of McComic many haven’t seen before. “A lot of people think that I branched out to painting, but actually I started painting long before I started making jewelry,” McComic said. Painting and drawing became a therapeutic outlet for the artist as a teenager but she recognized it as a healing tool about eight years ago. She’s kept the paintings from that time and the years to follow private, until now. “I’ve gotten to a point in my journey where I’m ready to move forward in my jewelry design and move into more embracing the metaphorical symbols that are meaningful to me and show where they stem from,” she said.
