The statement was released by Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City municipal People’s Committee, Nguyen Thanh Phong, during his reception for Governor of Chiba Prefecture, Kensaku Morita, on November 20. Chairman Phong also stated that Ho Chi Minh City and Japan’s Chiba Prefecture should enhance their cooperation in the fields of economics and culture, as well as exchanging in urban planning and management, creative urban development and labour. For his part, Governor of Chiba Prefecture Kensaku Morita affirmed that the Chiba government is ready to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese people to study, work and live in the locality, contributing to strengthening the friendship between the two sides. Currently, Chiba Prefecture has 48 investment projects in Ho Chi Minh City, including several from many major businesses in the retail sector, such as Ion and Ministop. Japan is the fifth largest investor in Ho Chi Minh City with around 1,200 projects worth over US$4 billion in total.
