Danang Airport needs expanding: tourism experts By Nhan Tam Two foreign tourists chat with each other after their flight is delayed due to the congestion of the runways – PHOTO: NHAN TAM DANANG – Danang International Airport is in dire need of expansion for many reasons, including the inconvenient flight times for new flights, the expansion of international air routes to Danang City and overwhelmed terminals, tourism experts stated. The Danang City government has asked the Ministry of Transport to quickly allocate capital and weigh a draft zoning plan for Danang International Airport, submitted by Airports Corporation of Vietnam, to speed up the expansion project’s deployment. The project requires VND3.8 billion for zoning alone to build the T3 terminal, and the city will call for investment to develop key airport infrastructure and upgrade other facilities. Some tourism experts noted that it was necessary to expand the airport because the central coastal city of Danang is considered the commercial hub of central Vietnam, welcoming significant numbers of international visitors each year. Dinh Van Loc, director of Viet Da Travel Company, said the expansion was essential because of rising international tourist arrivals in Danang City.
