The competition challenged the participants to climb more than 1,000 steps of Bitexco Financial Tower to reach the finishing line on Helipad, the landing platform for helicopters on the 52nd floor at a height of 191 meters, which features panoramic views of the city and the Saigon River. More than one-third of the participants were foreigners. The oldest participant was 71 years old while the youngest was 10 years old. David Shin from Sporting Republic, the organizer of the event, said the run not only enabled the participants to overcome their self-limitations but also was a unique chance for them to enjoy the city from above. According to Brian Cannon, deputy director of Bitexco Financial Tower, HCMC Skyrun is the only stair climbing competition in the city. It is expected to promote the sportsmanship among local residents and those from abroad as well as develop a new sporting activity in Vietnam.
