At Tetra Pak’s factory, which supplies millions of paper boxes and packaging equipment to dairy and beverage firms all over the world, including Vietnam, Industry 4.0 technology is applied to monitor the entire production process, down to the last detail. Tetra Pak uses a “smart plant” solution that can be run unmanned, from processing raw materials to distribution. The technology helps completely sterilize the packaging surface and high-tech tracking systems that allow manufacturers and consumers to look up detailed information on the whole production process. “Using the QR code printed on our packaging, consumers are able to access all the information on the product they are using, from raw materials, production processes, packaging, transportation and the carbon footprint generated by each product,” said Tetra Pak vice president Laurence Mott. The company has recently launched Tetra Pak Plant Secure, a game-changing plant management service that delivers profitability improvements to customers. The new service starts with a detailed audit of all the equipment and systems across the customer’s value chain. Other manufacturers supported by FDI are also well ahead of their domestic counterparts in the race to adopt 4.0 technology to meet growing consumer demand to know the origin and environmental friendliness of products.
