In the category of ‘Freedom’, the photo entitled ‘Take me home BW’ by Abdulla AL-Mushaifri from Quatar won the gold medal from the Vietnamese Association of Photographic Artists (VAPA) and the entry ‘The elderly’ by Tran Dinh Thuong from Vietnam bagged the gold medal from the Federation of International Art Photography (FIAP). Two photos entitled ‘Tea for me’ by Ravindra Ranasinghe from Sri Lanka and ‘Picking up rice paddies’ by Tong Tran Son from Vietnam were presented with gold medals from FIAP and France’s Image Sans Frontier, respectively, in the ‘Women and Employment’ category. For the ‘Uplifting Moments’ theme, the first prize from the VAPA went to the work ‘The Peek’ by Paolo Tavaroli from Italy, meanwhile the FIAP awarded the gold medal to Vietnamese photographer Nguyen Trung Kien for his photo ‘Uplifting’. The VAPA and FIAP presented gold medals to Vietnamese competitors Nguyen Le Phuong and Nguyen Vu Phuoc for their art works ‘Closing the pain’ and ‘I’m sorry Mom’, respectively, in the ‘Still life’ category. The International Arts Photography Contest is held biennially by the VAPA under the sponsorship of the FIAP and France’s Image Sans Frontier. This year’s contest was open from May 25 to September 17, bringing in nearly 9,700 photos from 31 countries and territories around the world to compete in four categories. All honoured photos are being displayed at an exhibition that officially kicked off on the same day.
