The company, the Hanoi Goethe Institute and the Battle Head Office will organize the event annually in Hanoi. Break-dancing has been popular in Vietnam since 1998, however, it has not been recognized as a mainstream art form in the country. But in the last five years, break-dancing has emerged as a cultural phenomenon and has been performed regularly in cultural exchanges between Vietnam and other countries. The U.S., France, Germany, the UK, Thailand, Singapore, China and the Netherlands have all sent break-dance teams and rappers to compete in international cultural exchanges in Vietnam. Vietnam’s Big Toe and Halley break-dance groups and rappers Windy and Minh Kien are famous groups who have performed at those events.
