Expansion of Hotel Majestic resumes Dao Loan By Dao Loan – The Saigon Times Daily HCMC – Saigontourist Holding Company has restarted a project to turn the area at and around its five-star Hotel Majestic in downtown HCMC into a major complex comprising of 500 hotel rooms and office space. The expansion project was kicked off four years ago but delayed later due to problems concerning procedures. “We have restarted the project and will complete it in late 2017 or early 2018,” Nguyen Anh Vu, general manager of Hotel Majestic, told the Daily yesterday on the sidelines of the 90th anniversary celebration of the hotel. Business at the hotel is as usual while new buildings next to it are under construction as part of the expansion project. The French colonial design of the hotel will be kept unchanged. The expansion project consists of two towers of 24 and 27 floors and four basements on the corner of Nguyen Hue and Ton Duc Thang streets. The current Hotel Majestic was built by wealthy Chinese-Vietnamese Hui Bon Hoa and opened in 1925 with three floors and 44 rooms.
