I have to start out here by saying that I have seen these guys live and they are every bit as powerful as I had heard they were. Now onto the bio…In early 2000, three friends from a small town in Orem, Utah formed a band. Founder Branden Steineckert (drums) joined forces with Quinn Allman (lead guitar) and Jeph Howard. This was the basis of the formation of The Used, but they were missing a singer. Tryouts were held in Branden’s bedroom but produced nothing.With music written for several songs, they had no lyrics. After the dismal vocal tryouts, Allman asked Bert McCracken if he was interested in joining. He took some music that they had written and put lyrics to it for what would eventually be “Maybe Memories.” He recorded that first demo with the band and hasn’t looked back since.The band took its name from their friends and family saying that they felt “used” when the foursome spent more time as a band. It was discovered that the name “Used” was already trademarked, so they added “The” to it.
