In Briefs (02-07-2008) Holcim VN sponsors Green Summer HCM CITY—More than 1,000 volunteers began working in this year’s Green Summer Campaign, sponsored by Holcim Viet Nam and organised by the city’s University of Technology. The voluntary campaign, which will last until August 1, will take place in Thanh Phu District, Ben Tre Province. Besides the campaign’s usual focus on housing, roads and bridges, the university will also organise recreational and anti-illiteracy activities in different communes. Holcim Viet Nam will help fund 12 construction sites, 21 charity houses and one kindergarten with a total cost of more than 400 million VND (US$ 25,000). Holcim also organised a training course on labour safety and building materials for university participants. Lang Son discovers smuggled antiques LANG SON — Lang Son Province police confiscated seven valuable antiques in the province’s Tan My Commune, Van Lang District. The police said on Monday that the antiques included a bronze drum, two bronze vases, one copper mirror and three opium pipes. The smuggler is still at large. New bridge opens to traffic in Phu Yen PHU YEN — A bridge linking the two mountainous districts of Son Hoa and Song Hinh in the central province of Phu Yen has opened to traffic after four years of construction.
